A Yurt is a portable round bent structure traditionally used by nomads in Central Asia as their home, which is in fact the Mongolian meaning of the term.
Our Yurt is part of Agriturismo il Poggio dell'Artilla, a characteristic farm in the heart of Tuscia, an area of origin of the Etruscan civilization. The property consists of 7 hectares with ancient olive trees and a vineyard, a main house and a smaller one, a panoramic swimming pool and a vegetable garden.
We started building the yurt in the Autumn of 2018. Here we want to share just few moments and accomplishments, which have nothing to do with what is written on so many websites. To build the yurt it took imagination, time, effort, good will and a good deal of help from those who love us!

  • Yurt Deck

Yurts have a low environmental impact.

To make it even lower, we used hemp fibre to insulate the deck. It is a biodegradable, non-toxic fibre, which mostly derives from waste straw left at the end of the hemp seed harvest. During its growth stage, hemp locks away up to two tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of fibre harvested, combating the effects of global warming.

  • Almost ready!

Getting it done! With the amazing help of friends and family, we finally built up the walls. At first we got stuck, but after an exquisite lunch under the warm sun, we got our creativity back and everything moved forward smoothly. The next day we put up the roof and the two covers, and it was done! Not as easy as we thought, but absolutely rewarding.

  • The Oak Tree Bathroom

At one point in everyone's life we all wish to live in or at least experience living in a tree house. The gorgeous oak tree standing there does not only comfort us with its presence and shadow, but it also gave us the opportunity to make the wish come true. What a better way to go to the bathroom through a rope bridge… and there’s also a chair hammock!

“The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us. Thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing. The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as well as our souls, and every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks in the heart of the mountains is our song, our very own, and sings our love.” ― John Muir
